Toppling is a common deformation and failure phenomenon in the reservoir bank slopes of hydropower projects. This paper studies genesis evolution different toppling bodies during water impoundment at Miaowei Hydropower Station Reservoir on Lancang River southwest China. properties were determined second characteristics analyzed stages. Different degrees primarily affected by transverse bending stress, while regional tectonic stress has been shown to have significant effect rock layers. Combined with on-site investigation monitoring results, mechanisms analyzed. The mass caused process mainly hydrodynamic splitting along fractures, wave impaction softening slope foot. gravity transmitted upward through joint misalignment, rotation slip, accelerating speed secondary forming compression-shear tension crack. A model predict scope time banks under action hydrodynamics was proposed.
